The Truth About Honey: Inside Sonoran Honey Co. with Salvador Delgado - Food Origins Podcast EPISODE 65

SHOW NOTES

Salvador Delgado is the founder of Sonoran Honey Co., a family-run apiary based in Blythe, California. His journey began in the 1970s alongside his father, who started the family’s first beekeeping operation. Growing up around hives, Salvador developed a deep respect for bees, the land, and the art of crafting pure, unprocessed honey.

Through Sonoran Honey Co., he’s continued that legacy with a mission to deliver real American honey — free from additives, excessive heat treatment, or foreign blends that dominate much of the commercial honey market today. His hives gather nectar from the wildflower and alfalfa fields of the Sonoran Desert, creating small-batch varietals that reflect the season and the natural diversity of the region.

In this episode, we talk about the craft of honey making, the daily realities of beekeeping, and shine a light on the misconceptions and the “dirty side” of the honey business — from misleading labeling to global honey fraud. Salvador shares what it takes to maintain integrity in an industry that often hides behind sweetness, and why his work is as much about transparency as it is about taste.
